Both of them

One of my favorite speculative fiction franchises has been the Star Trek series. It brought color TV into our home! He's got a flat screen now! He's in a hurry cause Breaking Bad is on. My Pops was a hard assed hold out on the "new" technology because he figured there just wasn't that much color on the TV anyway and he could just imagine what the colors were so why 86 a perfectly good B+W set for a color one? Back in the day it was "Sony? Who?" In 1966 or 67 our Black and White Zenith television went to a better place. The family, at least as far as I was concerned, was going to a better place too. We were going to my Grandparent's farm! Gramps long after the farm was gone. Man I loved the farm, it didn't matter the time of year in fact I 'm not sure what time of year it was on this particular journey but it I do know it was dusk when we pulled off of highway 7 and up to a sleepy gas station in Buttfuck Saskatchewan. Atheism or the big problem with little words

Image
I used to be an atheist until two things became apparent one being that there is something which sticks all the stuff in the universe together that can't be proven. What a light show! Of course that could change soon with the discovery of the Higgs boson . The second thing was that some Atheists are are not well researched in the general tenets of Atheism itself. They would argue for the sake of argument being very smart assed would be the way to put it. I have found Atheists who have been critical of even their own belief, that have thought hard about what they feel is a better way of viewing life and living. They have been very intelligent and oddly not out to debate unless invited to. Generally they're very accommodating, respectful and open to the views of others within the realm of civility. I would say it's a belief not a religion Then there is the person who is none of the above. Perhaps they're neophytes to Atheism or maybe they aren't Athei

High of 25!

I have given my air conditioner to a friend who really needed it. Then I graciously lend two of my osculating fans to the folks up the hall. I am left with one fan for Deb's room and the ceiling fan in my room with a floor fan that's completely H.O.! Stand there and let it blast away up the leg of my shorts in this 33 degree heat.  Actually it is 30 but feels like 33-34 Celsius because of a bunch of smoke coming from our neighbors to the west. No not the denizens of British Columbia but further west.   Although the people in B.C. have been dealing  with the trash island coming from  Japan but that's another story. There are wild fires burning in  Southern Siberia and the smoke is causing the humidity to rise.  That hot wet air hits me and turns to water, I'm soaked in minutes which when a breeze occurs is all good  but Friday can't come soon enough, a high 0f 25!

My Left Thumb

Image
I'm back to work full time again and this means less time for writing. I will try to keep those posts coming just a bit less frequently, the next post will be on Atheism. Hope to have it out this week. But the thumb is doing pretty good so that is a blessing to have to go back to full time not so much. In honor of the thumb I am posting a pictorial history of My Left Thumb. Not the first xray Hmm maybe it is. yeah it was uncomfortable  that disc was holding the tendon It was a bit crooked to start Then it went South! had to operate again Looks horrible but I got a real cool cast And a reasonably straight thumb

Mad about Mad Men

Image
As you know I fall into the category of people who never watch cable tv. So as a result when we got Netflix and there were a number of series television shows that we could watch from episode 1 and not re-watch an episode. AMC's original series Mad Men is one of them. You all know the story line and you have heard about it being the sexiest show on the air. Well that is what I have read albeit from AMC's web page. But through watching it has done what a great artistic endeavor must do. I knew the writing was very good and the story line was unique in that it is set at a time that doesn't include the most powerful age demographic the 18-35 group of today. It is familiar for me because I would be a bit younger than Baby Gene would be right now and if this pilot had come across my desk and the pitch was right I would have taken the chance also. I say that because of a huge interest that the youth of today have in the culture of the 60's and 70's but it's

As stupid as the elite think you are.

This post will seem choppy as it has been hacked to pieces. I have mentioned before how the powers that be cajole us into thinking everything is OK. Mr Jim Flaherty Minister of Money has said that job numbers are job numbers and if they are increasing we should be happy no matter what type of employment is offered. Of course he has his head up his ass depending on your personal financial situation. But this post is more of a question rather than a statement, unfortunately it has turned into a series of questions, I'm not expecting any answers. If in Ontario you lose a large amount of good paying jobs and then have a bunch of low paying retail jobs to replace those jobs lost then who in the end is going to buy the lattes, yoga pants, iphones, etc that ur supposed to be selling? So this brings me to an article written by a university grad with a history major. This person should have done a bit more research into her career path but, as she maintains, when she started 4

Does Google+ work? U bet!

Image
Slodive.com I have been reading in Google+ stream feed that it is not being used very much and the other most common comment seemed to be that Google+ is the same as Facebook. Or at least it seemed to be trying to be a rival social network. I would disagree with the intent of g+ being one of direct competition to the company of Facebook. The platform so far seems to be much better than Facebook mainly because of app integration. Sure there are hundreds of appy type things on FB but they are from Zynga et al and the apps connected to FB have been, IMO, redesigned and I find it difficult to use. The google+ photo share is pretty powerful so I'm extra careful when downloading photo's. Now here is something that I have found! After +1 my blog posts I have had an increase in readership and by that I mean from about 7-20 page views a day to pretty much 80 a day. What g+ has done is taken me out of my comfort zone with the circle thing (not sure I use it properly) and essent
