Hi there here's a message to the youth of Canada. Not all young people but those who seem confused and or disillusioned with the system or the candidates who are running in this next election. For this post I am going to leave out, as much as possible, the politics of our southern neighbor. You might wonder a number of things the first one: Is going to vote even worth the time? You will hear many older people say that your vote doesn't mean much because if you live anywhere but Ontario and Quebec it won't change the outcome! True Ontario and Quebec have the majority of seats in the house of commons so when there is a majority of which ever party it is a sealed deal for the rest of Canada right? Well although Ontario has a total of 122 seats you would still need 173 seats to have a majority. So Yes the voting in all of the other territories and provinces counts sometimes more sometimes less but count it does. I hope I have those numbers right....
You have probably heard the term "populist" but do you know what it means and how to spot it, do you think it's bad, good or really doesn't matter? Is populism something new? Let's define populist. The broad definition is simply a party or leader that's for the people. Before 1892 and the presidency of Andrew "Old Hickory" Jackson you don't see the term being used but Jackson was really trying to fight for the common voter by attempting to shut down the central bank and reform or abolish the electoral college so the term "populist" fit. Unfortunately I didn't see it used again to describe a leader of a country until Hitler. You might be thinking wasn't the French revolution for the people? Yes it occurred before Jackson's presidency but it wasn't a populist leader or party it was a "revolution". A violent revolution which failed and came back for a second try and of course there was the revolution i...
Oh isn't it nice to have this election over with? That noise from the south invading our northern headspace is over and done with. The system worked in favor of, depending on your bias, the party who should have won or the party most likely to whine about losing. I'm fckin with you. This is the democratic process at work and the irony is it might be the suspension of that same process which comes to fall on the American public because that process brought him back to the oval office a feedback loop of sorts. Mr T cares not about the American public so his policies will be dictated by his own perspective and it's one of a CEO, whatever is good for the country at that moment and if it's good for the country it's good for the CEO. As I have pointed out in the previous blog the d-man will behave as a populist dictator by using his office to interfere with opponents of any sort and reward handsomely his supporters. He is vindictive and holding the most po...
